Big Tasty — you remember it because the sauce exists
A lot of flavor depends on sauces and how you serve the dish.
In the end, everything comes down to the sauce and how it works with the other ingredients.
McDonald’s knows this well. They focus on a strong, memorable taste so you want to come back and eat that burger again.
But can you make it at home?
People say it’s a secret sauce and you can’t copy it. In a way, that’s true. The real Big Tasty sauce is made from products they control from farm to storage, and quality changes the taste a lot.
That’s why sauces for the chain are prepared in advance — you can’t just make them on the spot the same way.
But can you make it at home?
Short answer — yes. The taste will be different, and that’s good: it will be your sauce, unique and one-of-a-kind.
What do you need to make it?
Ingredients (with measurements):
Sweet pickles (not half-sour), 1 medium pickle, very finely chopped (about 30 g)
Mayonnaise — 200 g (about ¾ cup)
Mild mustard — 1 tsp (about 5 g)
Paprika — 1 tsp (about 3 g)
Granulated onion — 1 tsp (about 2 g)
Granulated garlic — ½ tsp (about 1–2 g)
Pickle brine — 1–2 tsp (about 5–10 ml)
Finely chop one medium pickle.
Pour off a little brine from the pickle jar.
Mixing
In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, a little mustard, paprika, granulated onion, and granulated garlic. Stir until the sauce turns a coral color.
Add paprika only until the color appears — don’t overdo it.
Then add the pickle brine and mix again.
Adding the chopped pickle is optional. If you add it, you’ll get more pickle flavor and a fresher note.
Serve in a small sauce dish on the table!
Not hard, right? The taste will be different from Big Tasty, but it follows the same flavor notes as much as possible in a home kitchen.
